Babbel – Learn Spanish App Reviews

Compra lamentable

Even after e-mailing customer support, I could not determine how to do anything other than pronounce words and phrases into my iPhone. Babels (free) competitor Duolingo gives the user a more-fulfilling blend of lesson types, including vocabulary and visual questions. Having to repeat a word or phrase every single question is too cumbersome for me, Im returning my purchase.

Love this app

I decided I wanted to learn Spanish, with this app Ill have it down in no time. Theres some errors with the app on iPad, which make it difficult to see what your supposed to do.

Frustrating

I tried out the free stuff and it seam great, so I paid for three months. I got the app on apple, but I never got access to anything except the free stuff. I requested help from Babble every day for the last four days. They never responded to any of them. Very disappointed

Voice recognition doesnt work

I like the idea of this app. I browsed the sections and lessons and it looks awesome. I took some free practice exercises and liked what I experienced. Except...the voice recognition is garbage. I repeated the same few words 15 times, slow, fast, loud, nothing worked. I restarted the program. Same thing. I switch over to Duolingo and it works like a champ. I recommend staying far away from this company. Learning a new language can be hard and frustrating enough without an app that was poorly developed making it impossible to learn. I feel this company serves to actively discourage people from learning a language. Why else would they put out such a terrible product? I wish I could find a company with this same concept that has a competent development team that makes an app that works. That would be awesome! Using an iPhone 6 without a case (nothing muffled) in case you were curious.

Freezes up constantly

This app is frustrating. It was not cheap and a waste of money because the lessons freeze at certain spots and wont advance past that point. Customer service told me to just do the other lessons but they all have this issue. Repeatedly requested a refund to no avail. Try another app. Very disappointed. Feel ripped off.

Buggy and slow

I like the concept but the app crashes too much and I have to restart lessons too many times. At the end of lesson where Ive had to type a lot, having to repeat it is slow and boring. That really takes the fun out of this app. Also, the voice recognition doesnt work so I turned it off. Would be nice but not a deal breaker, unlike the constant crashing

Great but... Major crashing.

This app is great and its functions are absolutely wonderful. How ever, when I am using the speaker option to reiterate the word back? It doesnt record it and when it does it will still say fail even though its correct. Or it wont even listen to what Im saying, and then say Im incorrect. It also is crashing on various times. Please fix! This is a helpful app! But its a frustrating one at that!

Immediately uninstalled it

Worst speech recognition on any app Ive ever seen. If you want to waste your time saying Hola 20 times before the garbage speech recognition finally accepts it then download this app.

Pay for education

I dont like the fact that you have to pay to learn new languages for the better of your life and education.I am stating this because they only give you one free lesson each course on this app until you subscribe by paying each month or more months , and if you do you get access to all the lessons. Thank you this is all I have to say until you update your conditions for this app.

Wish it were better

It was a good learning experience, but the voice recognition was horrible and you had to pay before you could even learn an actual sentence. I personally could learn more out of a Spanish dictionary.

Subscription needed

Voice recognition software seems to be untouched since 2009. And only a ten minute lesson bundle is actually free. And then you need to subscribe per month for more access. Lame-o-zine. I would wager the marketing/sales team for this app is in their 50s. At least that would explain why they like so many other dotcom era app developers refused to take the hint from whatapp. Just charge 1-5 dollars for a fully functioning app and twenty times more people will download it and then recommend it vs charging ten dollars per month and then spending 35% of that on marketing because only 15% of app store users will subscribe for any in-app service. Rosetta stone anyone? Free advice: trust in your product, trust in todays business model, and do a little research into people like John Mackey of Whole Foods and Yvonne Chouinard of Patagonia. Take care of people more than they expect and they will naturally feel indebted to you more than just a brand or even a great service. You will create in them familial loyalty. And the marketing value of that is priceless. Oh yeah, and you will immediately become to go-to translation app globally. Fast Company will want to interview your CEO and you will make rosetta stone look like AOL. Or you can do it old school; drag the company kicking and screaming into the waiting hands of your successor who will see the truth in this review. 3 stars. Uninstall.

Slow & tedious

This is app is slow and boring. The voice recognition is awful. And its advertised as free but you only get one lesson before you they want you to buy a subscription. Not worth it. Get Duolingo. Its really free and much more comprehensive.

Pay monthly...why?!?

Sorry but the App Store isnt a place to make residual income when there are so many other platforms to a language for free. This has the potential of being a great product but update software as suggested by others and consider charging a one time fee, with updates I would be inclined to pay $10 or so for the app. Will be uninstalling.
